After a very successful trade fair appearance, ASA AUTOMATION is now also presenting its Vertical Farm system at the Hanover trade fair 2024.

The application was originally developed and realised specifically for Agritechnica. This is because innovative automation solutions will also play a decisive role in agriculture in the future and ASA AUTOMATION is sending a clear signal in this development. Agriculture is currently developing rapidly into an important area of automation. The integration of new technologies promises greater efficiency and productivity in the future, while at the same time reducing labour costs. Experts are therefore forecasting significant growth in the use of precision farming, autonomous vehicles and other automated systems in the near future.

 Vertical Farming

The centrepiece is a visionary vertical farming concept licensed by the Fraunhofer Institute.

In contrast to previous indoor farming methods, this new generation of vertical farms offers a number of process-related innovations. For example, an integrated, wave-shaped conveyor belt system is used, which firmly fixes the respective plants and continuously realigns them in the room. Irrigation takes place in the form of an aeroponic irrigation system and optimum lighting of the plants is ensured throughout the entire cultivation period by modular LED technology.

To demonstrate the complete automation process at the trade fair, two collaborative robots from Fanuc's CRX-10iA series were also used. At the infeed side of the system, a robot loaded the system with cuttings. These were inserted into prefabricated holes on the conveyor belt system by the robot. On the outfeed side of the system, the second robot unloaded the finished plants and fed them for further processing. Both robots were equipped with a Schunk gripper for their task.

Due to the very high level of interest from visitors, we are now going to the Hannover Messe for the first time.
