AUTOMATICA 2025

June 24.-27.06.2025 I MUNICH I HALL A5 STAND 325

Together with our long-standing partner Piab Vacuum Automation, we will once again be represented at Automatica 2025 this year and will be presenting a robot-assisted application from the pharmaceutical sector.

The exhibit shows a classic laboratory application from the pharmaceutical industry using a collaborative Fanuc robot from the CRX series. Incoming, closed transport boxes are opened with the help of the cobot by removing the lid. The test tubes inside are then removed and placed in a holder for sampling. Once the test tubes have been checked, the cobot puts them back and closes the transport box again.

Gripper technology from Piab

The gripper technology comes from Piab, one of the world's leading manufacturers of vacuum components and grippers.

Robot gripper with vacuum component in use

The piCOBOT Electric gripper was chosen specifically for this dual gripper application, the removal and placement of the box lid and the handling of the test tubes, due to its high suction power and energy efficiency. In order to perform both tasks reliably, a customised combined gripper bridge was developed that eliminates the need to change tools between the two different handling steps.

Of course, the connection to the Fanuc CRX robot arm is simple and straightforward using plug-and-play. The piCOBOT Electric comes with everything you need to install the gripper on the Fanuc CRX and control it with ease. What is particularly nice is that no additional cables or hoses need to be routed along the outside of the cobot.

Process reliability from ASA Automation

As a long-standing specialist in robot integration, ASA Automation took over the complete programming of the handling process for this application.

The challenge in programming this pick and place application was to ensure very precise control of the robot in order to handle the fragile products gently and safely. Destroying a sample would be fatal, so process reliability was paramount.

As a general contractor, ASA Automation naturally also covers all other phases of a project in addition to programming (robotics and linear): from concept planning and design to mechanical and electrical installation, commissioning and subsequent after-sales service.

Regardless of which phase of the process you are in, we will be happy to support you in finding the optimal automation solution for you.

Have we piqued your interest and would you like to make an appointment to visit our stand? Then simply send us an e-mail with your preferred date to office.de@asa-automation.com.

We look forward to seeing you!
